An ISP or Internet service provider (ISP) is an organization that provides services for accessing, using, or participating on the Internet. ISPs can be organized in various forms, such as commercial, community-owned, non-profit, or otherwise privately owned.
Internet services typically provided by ISPs can include Internet access, Internet transit, domain name registration, web hosting, Usenet service, and collocation. An ISP typically serves as the access point or the gateway that provides a user access to everything available on the Internet.
ISP compares with each other with broadband types depending on where you live which are DSL, which is sometimes faster in the cities, Cable which can be slower in populated areas, satellite works anywhere but will slower in some areas, and FiOS which is fast but only available in a few areas.
They also have price ranges that are different from one another, that is the bandwidth speed they offer, different promotions for a certain duration and sometimes include data caps and hidden fees that charges more when you reach the cap, or your broadband becomes slow for the rest of the month.
The bandwidth that I have at home is 1000Mbps, which is fast for what I use it for. It is not easy to switch to a different provider once you are displeased with your provider, but it is possible to set the new one up withing two weeks. I think it is easier when you are not on any contract with your current provider.
I think if a community does not have broadband providers, rural communities will be economically crippled without broadband access. Broadband will not bring immediate economic transformation to rural America.
